Money Mad Monkey from MicroGaming
Money Mad Monkey is a fun slot game with a rather familiar feel to it. If you have ever played Donkey Kong as a kid, you will most probably recognise a few of the characters and the overall layout of Microgaming’s slot Money Mad Monkey. The slot is a modern online slot, and cannot be found in brick and mortar casinos. It is not as yet available on any mobile platform either but can be played with both Windows and Mac operating systems.
Money Mad Monkey has five reels and twenty optional paylines, with no progressive bonus but a number of decent special features. Coin wagers range from 0.01 up to 20 coins, which is a nice wide range that will attract not only beginners but some more experienced players as well. Money Mad Monkey can also be played for both real and free money, making it especially appealing to beginners who need to practice honing their skills on online slot games.
Big City Theme
The theme for this slot is not what you would automatically expect when you think about monkeys. It is not set in a jungle, but instead is set against the backdrop of a big city, possibly New York. The backdrop to the reels is said city at sunset.
The graphics in Money Mad Monkey are not mind blowing, but do work for the theme. This is probably not the kind of slot that you will spend hours and hours on, but it is visually pleasing and quite cute. The buttons at the bottom of the screen have been done to fit in with the big city theme, and include a fire hydrant for some reason as your betting button.
Money Mad Symbols
So the idea behind Money Mad Monkey is that you need to get money away from the crazy monkey. The symbols in the game all represent this, except for the very base ones which are taken from a deck of cards. These are done nicely enough in bright colours and good lines, but aren’t anything special.
Next up we have some theme-based symbols, and this is where the whole Nintendo experience may come in. There are a number of special symbols, including a barrel of banana’s and a cityscape, but one of the highest non special characters in the game looks very suspiciously like a certain Italian plumber named Mario. Mario along with a peeled banana and a monkey make the highest paying normal symbols in the game.
Money Mad Monkey Special Features
The first feature is the barrel of bananas, which is a stacked wild. After that comes the not so subtle wads of cash, which launch the free spins round. The amount of spins is determined by the amount of cash symbols that you find on reels one three and five. This feature cannot unfortunately be retriggered during the free spins round. The Trail Climb Bonus is another example of harking back to the days of Donkey Kong. Here three to five cityscape symbols will take you to a second screen game where you have to climb a slope by rolling dice. The monkey will throw barrels at you which you have to collect for prizes.
The final bonus game in Money Mad Monkey is a pretty simple little pick me round, which is launched by finding three or more barrel scatters. In this round you simply have to pick a barrel to reveal a prize that will be multiplied by your initial stake.
